Pet First Aid is normally a four hour course (we also offer this on a monthly basis) however for the Pet Expo I will be offering a special 1 hour course that will educate family members on what to do in the event of an emergency. This special offer is for the Expo and is ONLY $20.
Call 709-597-5028 to register for class or email Michelle at info@safetyontherock.com
Teaching will be for large and small breeds. Dogs and Cats.
During this hour we will discuss and demonstrate proper CPR technique for Dogs and Cats, teach you how to check their pulse and what their resting and active pulse should be.
We will also demonstrate how to check their temperature and what it should be.
Choking is a major issue with dogs and cats and during this hour I will demonstrate what to do if your pet is choking and offer a few helpful hints on prevention. Do you know what to do if your dog or cat is choking? After this one hour course, you will!
Sadly there have been several events in the media where people have found hotdogs and other foods at dog parks and in their own yards, designed to poison dogs and cats in the area. In addition to this, we often have things in our own homes that have potential to harm our animals if ingested. This class will inform you of what to do should your animal ingest poison and signs to look for if ingestion is suspected.
For those of you who have outdoor loving dogs and cats, know cuts and abrasions are common. If hiking or camping, a bleed on the foot, leg, or face can be very serious if travelling to the vet is extended. Knowing how to stop a bleed and properly bandage your pet is essential in the proper care of the wound and recovery.
In many cases a trip to the Veterinary Hospital is inevitable, however if you know what to do immediately following an emergency, it could be the difference in a positive or negative outcome for you and your animal.
First Aid, "It is always better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!"
Do what you can to educated yourself on how to protect your fur friend, they would do it for you!

The SPCA was the recipient for our fundraising goal this year. As many of you know, the SPCA is building a brand new location here in Spaniard Bay. They needed much support and fundraising in order to make this happen.
We put the Pet Expo together fairly quickly and were not 100% sure we would get the local support, but we were wrong! Spaniards Bay and surrounding area residents stepped up and showed up to support this worthy cause!
To all of you that took the time out of your busy day to stop by and see the SPCA at the Pet Expo, to all of the Vendors who set up to support us, to all of the AMAZING Volunteers who worked endless hours before and after the event, THANK YOU!
A special thank you goes out to Active Printing for donating the big presentation cheque, and to Pet Valu Carbonear for helping to promote the event in store.
With the help of the residents of Spaniards Bay and surrounding area, volunteers and vendors, together we raised $840.00 for the Baccalieu Trail SPCA!
The SPCA needs constant support so we are hoping to make this an annual event and get bigger and better every year. With your help, we can make it happen.
Please nominate a family you know is deserving of this gift.
Our location is Spaniards Bay and we would like to stay local. We will deliver the hamper on December 23rd. We would like to stay within a half hour to 40 minute drive in any direction.

There are never the right words to express the appreciation we receive from the families we assist every year. This year was especially difficult emotionally, for all involved. Our 2018 family was very deserving as all chosen are however, circumstances this year were a little different with the passing of their Mother just before the holidays. My family provided the hamper as always, a few old friends helped out and fortunately for us, we made a few new friends this year. This allowed us to join forces and contribute to the family in more ways than I dreamed possible.
To Connie Drover of Bryants Cove - Laurie & Shawn Power of CBS - The Management & Staff of Princess Auto -& Newfound Riders, THANK YOU! Because of your overwhelming generosity we were able to provide a bigger and better hamper, gifts for ALL of the children, cash donation to assist with bills, gift cards, and prepaid Visa's to ensure their Christmas was what they wanted it to be. It warms my heart to know you are all in my life and are the kind of people we need more of in this world. May God Bless you all.
